Dr. Janer was born in Caracas, Venezuela, and moved to Puerto Rico at the age of 4. She graduated from high school in Puerto Rico, and then went on to graduate from Georgetown University in 1982, with a degree in Biology. Dr. Janer has a love for science. Dr. Janer was involved in studying and researching bone dissection with the team working on the Space Lab-3 Flight Sample Utilization Program at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. It was Dr. Duke who encouraged Dr. Janer to go to dental school, and we are so glad she did.

Dr. Janer has a very extended family that spreads across several states and countries from Houston, Puerto Rico, Miami, Connecticut, Indiana, Spain, Venezuela, Argentina and France. He speaks Spanish at home with his parents who were both raised in Puerto Rico. He will tell you his family is a very typical Puerto Rican family.  They have their meals together and always welcome any friends at the house during dinner time to stay and share the meal with their family.  On several occasions, his Dad recalled his mother inviting people she had just met at HEB, when she heard their Puerto Rican accent, to Christmas Eve dinner. To this day, the family has friends that come to the house unannounced for a good espresso and to share lively conversations. There is never a dull moment at the Janer family home!

Dr. Janer spent many summers in the office working as a Dental Assistant for his mother, when he attended college.  This is what ultimately sparked his interest in Dentistry. Dr. Janer chose Dentistry, because it combines his artistic expression with helping patients achieve beautiful smiles and flawless aesthetic results.  He enjoys restoring patients after they have lost their teeth giving them esthetically pleasing outcomes with biologically healthy function. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing a patient complete their treatment with the smile of their dreams. He will tell you, “This is what it’s all about!”

His mother graduated from Dental School the year before he was born, so Dentistry has always been part of Dr. Janer’s life.  He loves science and has always enjoyed figuring out how things work.  These interests coupled with his passion for art is the perfect combination for a career in Dentistry. This is why it is often referred to as: "The Art and Science of Dentistry.”

Dr. Janer’s mother, Liliana Janer, who he practices with, was born in Venezuela and grew up in Puerto Rico.

His father was born and raised in Puerto Rico. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a Degree in Architecture. He completed a Master’s Degree in Business Administration at the University of Houston. He worked many years as an architect in private practice. Subsequent to this he worked at Methodist Hospital as an Architect and Manager of Facility and Building Services. He now helps with the equipment in the office.  His Dad is the one who cooks every day at home, and his Mom is thankful for this.  However, his Mom makes breakfast on weekends and Puerto Rican food, a family favorite.

D. Janer loves outdoor activities, including running, bicycling, fishing, working out and gardening the traditional way, with dirt, and  hydroponically.  He also enjoys wine and beer making, sculpture and painting.  When he cooks, and he loves to cook, he makes the food look beautiful at the same time, of course!

Dr. Rivera will tell you the reason she chose dentistry is because she had the opportunity to combine two of her passions, caring for others and dentistry. From the time she was a young girl she was captivated by dentistry. Her Pediatric Dentist and later her General Dentist were instrumental in her decision. The example of love and dedication her two Healthcare Providers exhibited toward their patients truly inspired her. Dr. Rivera’s love of plastic arts has been a passion of hers since early childhood, and when combining this with dentistry, she found her perfect calling. Her specialty of Prosthodontics takes her like-mindedness for artistry to the next level, because it involves dental esthetics with function.

Prosthodontists have advanced training in dental prosthetics such as crowns, veneers, implants, complete and partial dentures and implant-supported fixed prostheses (all-on-4).

Dr. Rivera is part of a large family in Puerto Rico with 33 aunts and uncles and over 40 cousins. Her parents and her younger sister live in Puerto Rico, and she visits them frequently. In addition to spending time in plastic arts for fun, Dr. Rivera enjoys reading, going to new places and trying new food. She loves the outdoors, hiking and tubing.

Dr. Rivera takes care of her patients like they are her family. She is always excited to see her new and existing patients, because caring for others is something that is in ingrained in her. You cannot miss this, when you meet her. She will tell you this energy permeates the Team Members and everything we do at Richmond Landing Family Dentistry. She hopes patients choose our Practice as their dental home for many years to come!
